  • Context (TOI): Archaeologists have recently discovered Harappan era fortified settlement, Morodharo, where life was flourishing some 4,500 years ago.
  • Morodharo is located near the village of Lodrani, approximately 51km from the World Heritage Site of Dholavira in Kutch, Gujarat.
  • The Morodharo settlement appears to have thrived during the mature and late phases of the Harappan civilization, from 2,600–1,900 BCE and 1,900–1,300 BCE respectively.
  • The site yielded a large quantity of Harappan pottery, similar to those found in Dholavira.

Dholavira

  • Dholavira is an archaeological site located on Khadir bet island in the Kachchh Desert Wildlife Sanctuary in the Great Rann of Kachchh.
  • Also known locally as Kotada timba, the site contains ruins of an ancient Indus Valley Civilization/Harappan city.
  • Dholavira is one of the two largest Harappan sites in India, and 5th largest in the subcontinent.
  • The city was fortified and had elaborate defense systems, a citadel, gateways, streets, castles, and houses that were made of stones.
  • Dholavira has one of the world’s earliest water conservation systems ever excavated.
