- Both A and R are true, but R is NOT a correct explanation of A
- A is true, but R is false
- A is false, but R is true
Explanation
Option (a) is correct
- The Non–Cooperation Movement (1920–22), launched by Mahatma Gandhi, aimed at peaceful non-violent resistance against British rule. On 5 February 1922, at Chauri-Chaura (Gorakhpur district, U.P.), a violent clash occurred in which an angry mob set fire to a police station, killing 22 policemen. Since Gandhi firmly believed in non-violence (Ahimsa) as the foundation of the movement, he felt the country was not yet ready for disciplined non-violent struggle. Therefore, he suspended the Non-Cooperation Movement in February 1922.
